The first group of children of the 2012 holiday season travelled to the Leeds Children’s Holiday Centre, Silverdale, near Morecambe for their holiday by the sea this week. Over 400 children will enjoy a short break/respite at the holiday centre during the summer and they will all travel by train from Leeds to Silverdale. Each week until the end of August, a different group of 14 children will enjoy a residential trip to Silverdale with memories that will last a lifetime.
The Leeds Children’s Charity is very fortunate to have the sponsorship of Northern Rail to help with the cost of tickets for the children and their escorts each week. This sponsorship means that the charity can provide more short breaks/respite for disadvantaged children who would not otherwise have the opportunity to leave difficult home situations and/or responsibilities beyond their years. We are extremely grateful to Drew Haley, Northern Rail, for all the ongoing support received and hope that this relationship will continue for many years in order to help as many children as possible.
For many children, this is their first train journey. They have never seen fields or flowers growing in the wild, animals grazing, or the sea and sand. Their holiday starts at Leeds Station and is a wonderful experience from the minute they leave the station.
