Giving children the chance to experience the outdoors, build confidence and create lasting memories
For many children, spending a night under the stars is a childhood adventure they’ll never forget.
Thanks to the generous support of The David Brown Foundation, pupils from Beeston Primary School recently enjoyed a fully guided overnight camping experience at Lineham Farm, the home of Leeds Children’s Charity.
For many of the children, it was their first experience of camping.
From pitching their own tents and building a camp to exploring the outdoors and spending time together around the campsite, every activity encouraged children to work as a team, develop new skills and discover what they were capable of.
These shared experiences do far more than create happy memories. They help children build confidence, strengthen friendships, develop resilience and experience childhood as it should be.
With 1 in 4 children in Leeds growing up in poverty, opportunities like this aren’t available to every child. That’s why partnerships and charitable funding are so important. Together, we can ensure more children have access to safe outdoor adventures and life-changing experiences.
What the school had to say
Following the visit, Sue Knowles, Pastoral Leader and Designated Safeguarding Lead at Beeston Primary School, shared:
“I wanted to say a sincere thank you for funding the overnight camping experience for our children.
It was lovely to see the children working together, encouraging one another and developing their teamwork and leadership skills. They also had so much fun, and it was clear from the smiles and conversations afterwards just how much the experience meant to them.
A special thank you to Joe and Rachel, who were brilliant throughout the visit. They created such a relaxed and supportive atmosphere, and it was clear how much the children enjoyed spending time with them.
For many of our children, this was something they would never normally have the opportunity to do. Sleeping in a tent was a real highlight, and for some it was a completely new experience.
They have come back with wonderful memories and, perhaps most importantly, have really bonded as a team.
Thank you again for making experiences like this possible. The children had a fantastic time, and I know they will remember their time at Lineham Farm for many years to come.”
