It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of charity trustee, John Pinkney.

John was a trustee of Leeds Children’s Charity for over 16 years and during that time had a huge impact on so many lives of the children and young people we help every day.

Along with his wife Christine, over those years John escorted thousands of children on the train journey from Leeds to our former home at Silverdale, Nr Morecambe, enabling them to have a much-deserved break.

A joiner by trade, John was also able to use his skills to assist with many a project at Silverdale. Amongst other things, he built doors for the swimming pool and replaced window frames in the dorm.

Aside from his dedication to the charity, John was also a huge sports fan; rugby, football, cricket, horse racing – you name it, John could tell you an interesting fact or anecdote. And his sharp sense of humour never left him, even whilst severely ill.

Our thoughts are with John’s family and friends during this time and we would like to express our deepest sympathies, but also our appreciation and gratitude for everything John did to help the charity – it certainly won’t be the same without him.

John’s funeral will take place at Lawnswood Crematorium on Thursday 31st October at 12.20pm. At the family’s request, please do not send flowers. They ask that any donations are made to Leeds Children’s Charity as was his wish.
