Teddy Bears’ Picnic Brings Joy, Adventure and Memories to 81 Children and Families at Lineham Farm

This summer, Leeds Children’s Charity welcomed 81 children and young people, alongside their families and carers, for a special Teddy Bears’ Picnic, delivered in partnership with Jayne Harris, Practitioner Lead for the Leeds Child Abuse and Neglect Team’s Multisystemic Therapy (MST) service.

For many of the children attending, the day was about something simple but incredibly important: having fun, trying new activities, spending time with loved ones and experiencing childhood as it should be.

Creating Positive Experiences for Children and Families in Leeds

At Leeds Children’s Charity, we believe every child deserves the opportunity to play, explore, build confidence and create happy memories, regardless of their circumstances.

With 1 in 4 children in Leeds living in poverty, many families face barriers that can make days out, holidays and new experiences difficult to access. Events like our Teddy Bears’ Picnic help provide safe, inclusive opportunities for children and families to spend quality time together, strengthen relationships and enjoy positive experiences in a supportive environment.

The day brought together families from across Leeds for a memorable experience filled with adventure, laughter and connection.

Adventure, Fun and Friendship at Lineham Farm

Children and families took part in a wide range of activities across Lineham Farm, including:

  • Bushcraft activities
  • Low ropes challenges
  • Arts and crafts
  • Karaoke
  • Sports day games
  • A teddy bear hunt
  • Outdoor play and exploration

From start to finish, the day was packed with smiles, laughter and opportunities for children to try something new, build resilience and boost their confidence.

Reflecting on the event, Jayne Harris shared a powerful reminder of why opportunities like this matter:

“Today was their summer holiday.”

It’s a simple statement, but one that highlights the reality many families face.

For some children, this may have been the only day out or holiday they experienced all summer.

Through partnerships like this, Leeds Children’s Charity can help ensure more children have access to safe breaks, outdoor adventures and positive childhood experiences that create lasting memories.

The Importance of Community Partnerships

Speaking about the impact of the day, Jayne explains how experiences like the Teddy Bears’ Picnic can support children and families by:

  • Strengthening family relationships
  • Creating positive shared memories
  • Building confidence and self-esteem
  • Encouraging social interaction
  • Providing access to new experiences
  • Supporting children’s emotional wellbeing

These moments may seem small, but they can have a lasting impact on a child’s confidence, resilience and outlook for the future.
