Lineham farm

Now home to The Charity, Lineham Farm has been enhancing the lives of local children since 1993 when it was converted into an outdoor children’s centre. This 17 th -century farmhouse, set in 120 acres of outstanding natural beauty, is the perfect place to provide disadvantaged children with much-needed respite and fun.

During term time, the centre is used for school residentials, with priority given to schools in the most deprived and disadvantaged areas of Leeds. Outside term time, we provide unforgettable breaks for neglected, abused or poverty-stricken children and young carers.

Outside

The farm is surrounded by fields, woods, lakes and wetlands where all kinds of wildlife take advantage of our bird boxes, nesting boxes and habitat piles. Children can view the animals and birds from our viewing platform overlooking the wetlands. The farm itself is home to pygmy goats, pigs, sheep, chicken and both miniature and standard Shetland ponies. The animals are a very important addition to life at Lineham – we even use the eggs produced by our chickens. The young people we work with and support love to be with them, to feed them, to groom them and to take care of them. The animals are very well loved and looked after.

Inside

There’s just as much to do inside the farm as out. Children can play pool, table football and table tennis in our games room – there’s also space for noisy group games. The cosy sitting room has big, squidgy sofas and an open fire, plus there’s a library area filled with children’s books. Then there’s our brilliant play barn, where children can tackle our 30-foot climbing wall or take on Jacob’s Ladder.
