Leeds Children’s Charity have always offered respite breaks. Historically these have taken place at Silverdale, which sits nestled in a peaceful village, within an area of outstanding natural beauty on the Lancashire coast near Morecambe. However following the decision to sell the Silverdale site in 2016, more recently our breaks have taken place at alternative venues such as Lineham Farm. What is of most importance to the charity is that we take the children to perfect locations to seek respite, with adventure, comfort and laughter in abundance.
Although our week’s away are designed to make sure its visitors have a fun filled time, we always remember that the children in our care have left behind difficult and often unpleasant family lives. The care we provide is sympathetic, gentle and loving, which helps to build personal and interpersonal communications skills, confidence and self-esteem.
We encourage children to interact and build long-lasting relationships with children from different backgrounds and offer a range of team building exercises throughout the week. The practical results of the project are evident in the behaviour of the children when they return home – with the skills to better cope with difficult situations at home, at school or in their community.
With an endless choice of indoor and outdoor activities to choose from, children are encouraged to try arts and crafts, dance and music, bike riding, go-karting, swimming, treasure hunts, bowling and much more.
